March Machiniplex this coming Sunday, March 21st. "Directing Voice Actors"

We'll be holding our March Machiniplex forum this coming Sunday, March 21st at 12:00PM (Pacific Time) to 1:30PM at the University College Suffolk island in Second Life. The topic will be "Directing Voice Actors" and we'll have special guests Iain Friar (IceAxe) director of last years Expo Grand Prize for "Clockwork", and Chantal Harvey, director of "The Joy of Music" and founder/producer of the annual MaMachinima International Festival which was held last month to great success.

We'll be discussing how directors can work with voice actors many of whom they have never met in real life, to improve the quality of the acting in their films. Some of the main topics under discussion include:

  • Where do you find good voice actors for your film?
  • How do you present your characters to them?
  • Best methods for working with actors over the net
  • How to help actors improve their work and create good recordings.
  • The role of improv in voice acting
  • How to cut multiple takes of a voice actor into one good performance
Phil Rice and I will be heading the discussion. We hope you can join us so we can all learn from each other.

Second Life location is UCSville (University College Suffolk) right on the shore. The main slurl for UCSville is:

    I'd love to be there, but family commitments will get in the way. I'll be honest and say that I've never mastered the art of working with actors over the net. I prefer my actors in the room with me so I can match the ambience of all the voices, and so that I can give them direction with facial cues and gestures while they do their lines.

    thanks, Matt. I'll relay your comment to the discussion.

    @Merzlinn.

    Definitely come on by. You'll find a lot of practicing directors attending. The conversation should be interesting and practical.

    Thanks for putting this on, PC problems have prevented me from attending the first forums, but managed this one, and enjoyed listening to the expert advice provided.
    Have one suggestion for next month's... post details of the event at https://secondlife.com/my/community/events/edit.php?lang=en-US to draw in more people.

    thank you, satscape. Yeah, I missed posting about the event this time. I need to make a list of where I post the event and just do it every month. Too many other projects on my plate and I just goofed.

    Appreciate your attendance and participation.
